Rickenbacker Guitar Starts Rock And Roll

The Rickenbacker Guitar is why we now have rock and roll music. Without this immigrant from Switzerland rock and roll stars like John Lennon and the Beatles may never have been noticed. The story began with Rickenbacker coming to this country in and working with a man who performed on the vaudeville stage.

The result was the first electric guitar produced. The evolution of the electric guitar took off as the era of rock and roll started. The first electric guitar was invented in the 1920’s. So by the time the rock and roll era started the guitar went through a lot of changes.

But the essence of the guitar remained. The Beatles and John Lennon used this guitar when they played in Berlin, Germany and used it when they appeared for the first time on the Ed Sullivan show.

The first or primary use of the guitar, known as a pancake or frying pan because of its flat round shape, was for Hawaiian music. This was a popular form of music at the time. But others found that the guitar worked well for all music. Soon musicians from all other backgrounds were using it.

Instead of being a background instrument it was becoming the primary sound in the band. We take for granted that the band will be led by the guitar. But this was not the case until the invention of the electric guitar.

Today however the guitar player takes center stage in most popular music. It can easily be argued that without the Rickenbacker Guitar rock and roll music as we know it today would not have been born.

The Rickenbacker Guitar has a great history and is undoubtedly a must-have for any lover of music and guitars. Helmut Swiss takes us on the most extraordinary Rickenbacker journey on http://www.rickenbackerguitar.net

  1. Wow! That’s a story of migrations and transitions. Very poetic – the thing that happened to the Rickenbacker Guitar. I play rhythm but did not know this beautiful story…thanks.
